Maci Moehring

Maci Moehring serves as the Community Liaison for Voices of Change 2018, where she is dedicated to strengthening community connections, expanding outreach, and creating greater understanding, acceptance, and inclusion for individuals with disabilities.

For Maci, this work is deeply personal. Growing up alongside her brother, Evan, who has Fragile X Syndrome, autism, and other developmental and intellectual disabilities, gave her an understanding of disability that cannot be learned from a textbook. Evan has been one of the greatest influences in her life and helped shape the person she is today.

From a young age, Maci witnessed both the incredible strengths of individuals with disabilities and the barriers they too often face. Those experiences inspired her to dedicate her life to working with and advocating alongside individuals with disabilities. She believes every person deserves to be included, respected, protected, heard, and given the opportunity to live a meaningful life as a valued member of their community.

Maci has spent years working directly with children and individuals with disabilities, bringing compassion, patience, understanding, and personal experience to the people and families she supports. Her relationship with Evan has given her a particularly powerful perspective on the importance of seeing the person before the disability and recognizing that individuals with disabilities want the same things we all do: friendship, belonging, independence, safety, respect, opportunity, and acceptance.

Maci is also a survivor and public speaker who courageously raises awareness about sexual, emotional, and verbal abuse. Her advocacy is rooted in lived experience and in witnessing the devastating disparities individuals with disabilities can face when they experience abuse and attempt to seek protection and justice.

After surviving sexual assault herself and witnessing the profound differences in how the justice system responded when her brother was harmed, Maci joined her mother in cofounding Voices of Change 2018. Together, they transformed their family's pain into purpose and created an organization committed to preventing abuse, educating communities, empowering individuals with disabilities, and advocating for meaningful systemic change.

Today, Maci continues that mission through both her professional work and her personal commitment to the disability community. As Community Liaison, she leads outreach efforts, helps organize programs and events, builds relationships with families and community partners, and works to ensure that individuals with disabilities are not simply present in our communities, but included, valued, protected, and heard.

In her free time, Maci enjoys reading, cooking, singing, volunteering, and photography. At the heart of everything she does, however, is a commitment that began with the relationship between a sister and her brother and grew into a lifelong purpose: to stand beside individuals with disabilities, amplify their voices, and help create a world where they are treated not as different or less than, but as people who belong, just like everyone else.
